HBO Max has just announced the premiere of its new Max Original series, ÂNGELA DINIZ: MURDERED AND CONVICTED, set for November 13. The platform has also released an exclusive teaser with the first images of the drama. Based on a true crime, the production by Conspiração is directed by Andrucha Waddington and will feature six episodes.
The story is inspired by the acclaimed podcast Praia dos Ossos and revisits the life of Ângela Diniz, a woman who, through her freedom and autonomy, defied the standards imposed on women and was brutally punished for it. Her last relationship ended in tragedy when she was murdered with four point-blank shots by her boyfriend Doca Street, under the justification of “legitimate defense of honor” — a case that sparked feminist movements across the country.
The teaser previews the production’s intense atmosphere, starting with glimpses of a radiant Ângela in happy moments, only to quickly reveal the tragic turn of her journey. The images progress into increasingly tense scenes, including Doca’s violence against Ângela, reinforcing the dramatic tone and gravity of the real-life story that inspires the series.
The cast features Marjorie Estiano as Ângela and Emilio Dantas as Doca Street. Also starring are Antonio Fagundes (as lawyer and former Supreme Court Justice Evandro Lins Silva), Thiago Lacerda (Ibrahim Sued), Camila Márdila (Lulu Prado), and Yara de Novaes (Maria Diniz). The cast is completed by Thelmo Fernandes, Renata Gaspar, Tóia Ferraz, Carolina Ferman, Joaquim Lopes, Emílio de Mello, Marina Provenzzano, Maria Volpe, Gustavo Wabner, Ester Jablonski, Pedro Nercessian, Deco Almeida, Stepan Nercessian, Daniela Galli, Priscila Sztejnman, Tatsu Carvalho, Charles Fricks, and Alli Willow.
ÂNGELA DINIZ: MURDERED AND CONVICTED is a Max Original fiction series produced by Conspiração. Written by Elena Soárez, Pedro Perazzo, and Thais Tavares, the series is directed by Andrucha Waddington, with Rebeca Diniz directing the second unit. The production is led by Waddington and Renata Brandão. For Warner Bros. Discovery, executive production is handled by Mariano Cesar, Anouk Aaron, and Vanessa Miranda.
