HBO Max has just unveiled the first teaser for the second season of CITY OF GOD: THE FIGHT RAGES ON. Produced by O2 Filmes, the HBO Original series continues the story that began with the acclaimed, award-winning 2002 feature film City of God and expanded with its debut season, released in 2024. The new episodes premiere this November on HBO and HBO Max, bringing unexpected twists to a story that has resonated with both audiences and critics.
The upcoming season of CITY OF GOD: THE FIGHT RAGES ON delves even deeper into the power dynamics shaping life both inside and outside the community. Following the death of drug lord Curió, a turf war for territory control erupts. Meanwhile, the newly elected city councilwoman, Berenice (Roberta Rodrigues), takes on political corruption and militia groups, while Jerusa (Andréia Horta), a lawyer haunted by a dark past, seeks vengeance against those responsible for destroying her family. Amid the turmoil, the community finds strength through culture, funk music, and community parties (bailes), led by Leka (Luellem de Castro), who strives to create new opportunities and inspire hope in her neighborhood.
Alexandre Rodrigues, Roberta Rodrigues, Sabrina Rosa, Andreia Horta, Kiko Marques, Dhonata Augusto, Luellem de Castro, Victor Andrade, Carol Dall Farra, Rafael Lozano, Shirley Cruz, and Otavio Linhares return to their roles in the new season.
Matheus Nachtergaele returns for the show’s second season, reprising Cenoura, his character from the 2002 film, who comes back to the community after being released from detention. The large cast also includes Demétrio Nascimento, Aretha Sadick, Jurema da Matta, Emilly Amaral, Jefferson Brasil, Luiz Bertazzo, Andre Dread, Felipe Paulino, Bragadok, Jeff D Paulla, Don, Scoobyduu15, Bryan Sant, Ricardo Fernandes, João Felix, Julito Oliveira, Iago Pires, Natan Tayllor, as well as Rubens Santos, Faíska, Rafael Sardão, Rita Assemany, Markus Konká, Milton Filho, WB Negão, Alexandre Paz, and Guilherme Guerreiro, who join the new season.
CITY OF GOD: THE FIGHT RAGES ON is an HBO Original series produced by O2 Filmes. Andrea Barata Ribeiro and Fernando Meirelles are the project’s lead producers, with Cris Abi and Gustavo Gontijo as co-producers. Aly Muritiba serves as overall director, Bruno Costa directs episodes, and Thatiane Almeida is co-director of episodes. The writers’ room is led by Maíra Oliveira and Paulo Lins, with screenplay supervision by Patrícia Andrade, and includes writers Estevão Ribeiro, Luiz Guilherme Assis, Rodrigo Felha, Clara Meirelles, and Vicente Ferraz.
