Twenty years later, new voices and archival footage shed light on the questions that still surround the death of the Mexican regional music icon.
HBO Max announces that the new HBO original documentary series ‘THE KILLING OF THE GOLDEN ROOSTER’ will premiere on November 12. Twenty years after the murder of the Mexican regional music icon, the production reconstructs the hours that shaped his story and revisits the questions that, two decades later, remain unanswered.
Over the course of three episodes, the series brings together testimonies from family members, people close to the artist, journalists, investigators, and figures from the Mexican regional music scene, along with archival and investigative material. From various perspectives, the documentary explores the story behind his death, the impact of his passing, and the legacy of an artist whose voice continues to resonate across generations.
‘THE KILLING OF THE GOLDEN ROOSTER’ is an original HBO documentary series produced by Sula Entertainment and Lemon Studios.
