The highly anticipated starring Grazi Massafera, David Junior, and André Luiz Miranda, the Brazilian telenovela will be available in all markets where HBO Max is available.
HBO Max announces the global premiere of its new Brazilian telenovela, MADAM BEJA on February 2nd. In addition to its national release, the production will debut simultaneously in more than 100 countries and territories worldwide, including Latin America, Portugal, Spain, France, the USA, Canada, and Hong Kong.
Inspired by the life of Ana Jacinta de São José, a historical figure from Minas Gerais, MADAM BEJA offers a new interpretation of the iconic telenovela originally aired in the 1980s. To recreate the universe, the production built a 1,710m² set and crafted over 3,000 costumes pieces exclusively for the series.
The srotyline follows a woman who challenges the social norms of her time in a context marked by restrictions and inequalities. Throughout the plot, themes such as desire, freedom, power, and revenge intertwine to shape a complex character, whose intelligence and independent place her in constant conflict.
MADAM BEJA is produced by Floresta and licensed by Warner Bros. Discovery. Written by Daniel Berlinsky and António Barreira with collaborations from Maria Clara Mattos, Cecília Giannetti, Clara Anastácia and Ceci Alves. General direction is by Hugo de Sousa, with direction by Bia Coelho, João Boltshauser, Rogerio Sagui, Thiago Teitelroit and Ana Angel. On behalf of Floresta, executive production is by Adriana Silva (Dida), Roberta Guzzon, and Tayane Saad. The production is based on the synopsis developed by Renata Jhin, António Barreira, and Daniel Berlinsky, in a reinterpretation of the original work created by Wilson Aguiar Filho.
