Horacio García Rojas, Omar Chaparro and Álvaro Morte will lend their voices to the Particular Crowd animation that will immerse fans in the world of Mesoamerican culture.
HBO Max reveals Horacio García Rojas, Omar Chaparro and Álvaro Morte as the lead voices of BATMAN AZTECA: CHOQUE DE IMPERIOS, in celebration of the 83rd anniversary of Batman, the iconic DC Comics character.
BATMAN AZTECA: CHOQUE DE IMPERIOS will showcase the region where the Aztecs lived and place DC's iconic superhero in a captivating era of exciting Mesoamerican history and culture.
Horacio García Rojas, Mexican actor and producer, known for his participation in Narcos: Mexico will bring to life the bat of the night: Batman and of course Bruce Wayne, who in this story will be known as Yohualli Coatl.
Born into royal privilege and Aztec priesthood, young Yohualli Coatl has experienced few hardships in his life, aside from the recent death of his mother. But when his father, the chief Toltecatzin, is murdered in cold blood by the Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés, young Yohu's life crumbles around him.
Yohualli appears to be a helpless boy. However, his alter-ego, THE BATMAN, is not. Stumbling upon a forgotten temple of Titicatzin (the bat god of the Aztecs), Yohu is inspired to create a masked hero to protect his people, avenge his father and stop Cortes from destroying Tenochtitlan.
"To know that brown-skinned boys and girls like me can see themselves in a hero who shares their same features, who carries in his skin the history of a past that is still alive, a hero who fights for his own, fills me with emotion. When I was a kid I would have loved to feel represented; that didn't happen, but today things are changing and my Geek heart is grateful for it. The child that still lives in me smiles at the thought of 'I am Batman'," said Horacio García Rojas.
In turn, Omar Chaparro, Mexican actor and comedian (No Manches Frida and Compadres) will be identified by the audience as Joker, who in this version will be called Yoka.
He is a strict and conservative priest who believes in the ancient prophecies of the return of the gods. When Yoka asks the god Huitzilopochtli for advice, the deity answers him! But is it a vision? Or the delirium of a madman? Giving Huitzilopochtli the human sacrifices he demands, puts an end to the priest's sanity. And in his madness, Yoka decides it's all a joke, and he? the Joker!
"I'm very happy to be a part of this film and to tell this original story that is steeped in Mexico's rich history. I have always loved the Joker and didn't want to pass up the opportunity to play such an iconic villain. It's an honor to be a part of this film with such a creative and daring director and screenwriter. We are creating something risky and beautiful at the same time," said Omar Chaparro.
Meanwhile, renowned Spanish actor Álvaro Morte will play the fearsome conquistador Hernán Cortés (who emulates Two Face) in this story, which will come to HBO Max.
Drawn to the new world by his dreams of gold and conquest, Cortes is as cunning as he is bloodthirsty. The crazed Spaniard murders Yohu's father and, using an ancient Aztec prophecy, tricks the Aztec emperor Montezuma into believing his presence is the will of the gods. Wounded in battle, Cortes loses half of his face, and his exterior now matches the monstrosity of his soul. It seems he is destined to become the mad tyrant who rules Montezuma's empire, but there is only one thing standing in his way.... Batman the Aztec!
Synopsis:
In the time of the Aztec Empire, young Yohualli Coatl experiences tragedy when his father and village leader (Toltecatzin) is killed by Spanish conquistadors. Yohualli escapes to Tenochtitlan to warn King Montezuma and his high priest, Yoka, of the impending danger. Using the temple of Tzinacan (the bat god) as a hideout, Yohualli trains with his mentor and assistant, Acatzin, developing equipment and weaponry to confront the Spanish invasion, thus protecting Montezuma's temple and avenging his father's death.
